Have we hit recession in the UK?

I have been in employment for the last 11 years, but recently went to University. Now I’m on my summer break and, for the first time ever, I’m having trouble getting a job. I am told this is due to mass job cuts because of imminent recession. Food and utilities are at least 50% more than they were just last year and I’m having trouble making ends meet!

I think your getting inflation/deflation mixed up with recession/growth.
Prices going up are due to hyper inflation, officially our inflation is now 4%, but it is actually more like 7% – due to government ‘choosing’ of figures.
OFFICIALLY – We are in growth, but again, the government might be tweaking statistics.
Look up the meaning of growth and recession, it basically is a measure of how much the government spends. This doesn’t reflect the wealth of our nation.

The best thing for you now is to get a degree at the University you are now pursuing. High oil price,credit crunch and inflation concerns are a worldwide problem and all are finding ways in order to not to be in a recession. Hopefully, after you have obtain a degree, the economy will be better and you will be able to get a good job. Meanwhile to make ends meet, try to economise in your life styles. During your summer break, try and get a job in a restaurant.
