The only people buying houses at the moment are housing associations – does that tell you what you need to know.

If not they are privately renting.

They have to apply but yes that is the practice and one of the reasons that the government released 3 years worth of funding last year as they knew this was going to happen.

Considering they have sold 15 of the houses on my estate of 26 to the housing authority so live round our way and you could get a brand new 3 bedroomed house for £67 a week (much less than my mortgage)……. It almost has me voting Tory!

In some respects my opinions are very right wing and I do believe that the tories have some good policies – I wish that in this difficult time they could forget the politics and work closer together to get us out of the mess that we are in. Any glad that I am not all that bad – life is too short and despite your lack of love for Brown I find you open, reasonable and pleasant too. Have a great evening.

It is because the situation is so difficult that a lot of people facing repossession may unfortunately have fallen for the sell-and-rent-back scams. There are estimated to be about 1000 unregulated companies who offer to buy the house, way below market value of course, and then rent it out to the former owners. The problem is that the company buying the house is usually only after the profit they can make when they have been able to sell the house on again at market value, so they have an interest in ultimately finding a way to evict the tenants.

Depending on what they can afford, they go to shelters, hotels, live with family or friends or rent an apartment.

Awful, people put the effort in working there butts off only to end up worse off than people who have made no effort whatsoever.

If it ever happens to members of my family they can come and live with me, I don’t care how many, I will make room for them all. I will sleep on the floor if necessary.

That’s what happens if you try to “live beyond your means”
YES WE WOULD ALL LOVE AN 8 BEDROOM DETACHED HOME WITH AN ACRE OF LAND TO LIVE IN, But I cant afford that so I will make do with a modest 2 up 2 down.

no they have no hope there ,unless they go to the homeless hostels,i know someone who is renting privately,someone living back with parents and someone living in a van

Wherever they can! People end up sofa-surfing their friends and relatives and families get broken up. It’s a terrible thing to happen to any family and so much worse if it’s brought about through events beyond their control.

they have to go to their local council to seek help. Often ending up in bed an breakfast intially before being found some place, though unlikley in many cases to be remotely the same size place they have had to vacate.
